Background

The Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC) includes all industrial chemicals used in Australia between 1 January 1977 and 28 February 1990, as well as chemicals reviewed after 1990. Up to February 2022, more than 40,000 chemical substances have been listed in AIIC.

Companies can search the chemicals in public section from the website below:

https://www.industrialchemicals.gov.au/search-inventory

For confidential section of AIIC, companies need to submit an inquiry to authority by completing a related form.

Chemicals not listed in AIIC are new chemical substances and shall be classified before manufacture or import. Chemicals that have been listed in AIIC but are subject to environmental management for new uses shall conduct environmental management registration for new uses when they are used for other industrial uses other than permitted uses.

In accordance with the Australia Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), Australian enterprises shall conduct registrations of their industrial chemicals before manufacture or import. The registration period runs from September 1 to August 31 of the following year.
