On January 1, 2026, Amendment 1 to the supporting standard - Requirements of Concentration Limits for Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (GB/T 26572-2011) for China RoHS officially took effect. The standard expands the list of controlled substances by adding four phthalates—DEHP, BBP, DBP, and DIBP—bringing the total number of restricted substances from six to ten. Concurrently, the referenced test methods have been updated to the GB/T 39560 series. This revision achieves full alignment between China's RoHS requirements and the EU RoHS Directive, and paves the way for the mandatory standard GB 26572-2025, set to take effect on August 1, 2027.
China RoHS Restricted Substances List:
Restricted Substance | Limit Requirement (Mass Fraction) |
Lead (Pb) | ≤0.1% |
Mercury (Hg) | ≤0.1% |
Cadmium (Cd) | ≤0.01% |
Hexavalent Chromium [Cr(VI)] | ≤0.1% |
Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) | ≤0.1% |
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) | ≤0.1% |
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) | ≤0.1% |
Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) | ≤0.1% |
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) | ≤0.1% |
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) | ≤0.1% |
In addition to the upgrade to the controlled substance list, it is also mandatory to stay compliance with new marking requirements and conformity assessment requirements.
- New Marking Requirements
The Requirements for Restricted Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (SJ/T 11364-2024) came into effect on April 1, 2025, and must be implemented no later than January 1, 2026, in sync with Amendment No. 1 to GB/T 26572.
Requirement: The hazardous substance content information table must be updated from 6 items to 10 items and comply with the marking specifications in the new standard.
- Conformity Assessment Update
Requirement: For products listed in the Compliance Management Catalog, those that have completed the conformity assessment for the 6 substances according to GB/T 26572-2011 and shall continue to be manufactured for sale or import must complete the conformity assessment for the 10 hazardous substances by January 1, 2027. This requirement applies from January 1, 2026.
