South Korea’s Chemical Compliance Framework Is Changing

South Korea has introduced important changes to its chemical hazard communication framework.

The 2024 amendments to K-REACH, which took effect on August 7, 2025, redefined the categories of toxic substances and introduced the concept of “substances with unconfirmed hazards.”

At the same time, MoEL Notice No. 2025-50 revised the Standards for Classification, Labelling and Safety Data Sheets.

From July 1, 2026, SDSs placed on the Korean market must follow the revised format.

For manufacturers, importers and distributors, these changes mean that existing chemical compliance processes, SDSs and labels may need to be reviewed and updated.
