From April 1, 2026, seven PFHxS-related commodity items must clear customs-assisted checks on both import and export in Taiwan, after the International Trade Administration (ITA) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs assigned them dedicated trade-regulation codes on March 19, 2026. Importers and exporters of these PFAS chemicals should confirm their tariff-linked code obligations before shipping.
The move adds the seven items to the List of Commodities Assisted by Customs for Import Examination and the parallel export list, under import regulation code 508 and export regulation code 533. In practice, customs will verify whether a shipment meets the conditions set by the competent authority before release, layering border control on top of the existing domestic restrictions on PFHxS, its salts and related compounds.
PFHxS was already banned in Taiwan as a toxic chemical substance; the new trade codes close the import and export route, consistent with the substance's listing under the Stockholm Convention as a persistent organic pollutant targeted for elimination. Companies trading in fluoropolymers, firefighting foams, surfactants or other PFHxS-containing goods should screen their portfolios and tariff classifications against the updated lists.
