Taiwan Announced Testing Method for Sudan Dyes in Cosmetics

On November 24, 2025, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) under the Ministry of Health and Welfare officially issued the testing method for Sudan dyes in cosmetics (Method No. RA03D015.001), which came into effect upon the date of publication.

Key contents include:

• Scope of application: This testing method is applicable to the detection of four Sudan dyes in cosmetics: Sudan I (CI 12055), Sudan II (CI 12140), Sudan III (CI 26100), and Sudan IV (CI 26105).
• Analytical method: After sample extraction, analysis is conducted using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
• Limit of quantification (LOQ): The LOQ for each of the four Sudan dyes is 0.2 µg/g.
