On April 17, 2026, the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment solicited public comments on expanding the scope of use for the food additive Carmine and the food nutrient enhancer 3'-sialyllactose sodium salt. The deadline for comments is May 17, 2026. Relevant information is as follows:
Food additive with expanded scope of use (1 type)
S.N. | Name | Category number | Food name | Maximum level (g/Kg) | Remark |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Carmine | 04.01.02.04 | Canned fruit (strawberries only) | 0.2 | - |
Food Nutrition Enhancer with Expanded Scope of Use (1 type)
S.N. | Name | Category number | Food name | Use level | Remark |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 3'-Sialyllactose sodium salt | 13.02.01 | Cereal-based complementary foods for infants and young children | 0.06-0.28g/L | When used in combination with 2'-fucosyllactose, galacto-oligosaccharides, fructo-oligosaccharides, polyfructose, and raffinose, the total amount shall not exceed 64.5 g/kg. |
The former categories of 3'-Sialyllactose sodium salt are Infant formula, infant formula for special medical purposes, and prepared milk powder for children; this public consultation expands the scope to canned complementary foods for infants and young children, and cereal-based complementary foods. This marks another expansion of the scope of use for a human milk oligosaccharide following 2'-fucosyllactose.
